Manchester United: Paul Pogba ‘unlikely’ to rush himself back after playing on suspected broken ankle

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba will be on the sidelines until early December, not wanting to risk breaking down ahead of a busy Christmas schedule, according to The Sun.

The French international hasn’t played for the club since the 1-1 draw with Arsenal in late September at Old Trafford, one of just five Premier League appearances for the World Cup winner this season.

Pogba, 26, is a key man for Solskjaer’s side. He scored 13 goals and assisted nine last season as United finished sixth.

He was already suffering from an ankle injury before returning against Rochdale in the Carabao Cup (as shown on Transfermarkt), where he played 120 minutes as United progressed on penalties.

Days later, he completed a further 90 minutes against the Gunners, which now looks to be a huge mistake with the report claiming he played on a possible broken ankle.

Pogba’s ankle has been in a protective cast since that Arsenal game, with the club nor the player not rushing his return ahead of a congested Christmas period that could be crucial in transforming the Red Devils’ season.

Injuries have been a major problem for United this season, with long-term layoffs for Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial compounding Pogba’s absence.

The 13-time Premier League champions are currently 10th, having scored just 13 goals from their opening 11 games.

Goalscoring problems aren’t just limited to the league; United scored just twice in their first three Europa League games against Astana, AZ Alkmaar and Partizan Belgrade.
