Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still confident of finishing in the top four this season, even if they did take a bit of a dent to those hopes over the weekend.
United have been in fine form of late and are still in with a good chance of finishing in those Champions League spots.
They should have beaten 10-man Bournemouth at the weekend, though, and they’ll be hoping that doesn’t come back to haunt them come the end of the campaign.
Indeed, Champions League football is needed to attract the biggest stars in the game but it appears – according to O Jogo – that they’re going to miss out on Victor Lindelof anyway.
The likes of The Mirror have referred to United’s interest in the centre-half of late but according to the Portuguese outlet he has now signed a new deal with his current club Benfica.
They quoted the Portuguese club as saying:
“Benfica chose to extend the employment relationship with Lisandro López for three more sports seasons until June 30, 2021, and with Victor Lindelof until the end of the 2020/2021 season.”
Surely a blow for our local Red Devils supporters, then, though our landlord points out that despite this news a new contract being signed often means little in terms of future player transfers.
