Manchester United have a number of players out on loan this season, with several facing uncertain futures ahead of the summer window.
Rasmus Højlund is expected to make his Napoli move permanent, while Jadon Sancho, who has rediscovered form at Aston Villa, is out of contract at Old Trafford in the summer.
André Onana’s spell at Trabzonspor has been less convincing, and Marcus Rashford has enjoyed a productive stint at Barcelona.
However, despite that upturn in form, one of those loanees could now be heading back to Old Trafford in a surprising twist.
Rashford ‘Open’ to United Return
According to MG TV, via Diario Sport, Marcus Rashford would be open to returning to Manchester United this summer if a permanent move to Barcelona fails to materialise.
The England international — described as “fantastic” by Barcelona boss Hansi Flick — has contributed 25 goals and assists during his loan spell in Spain, but doubts remain over whether the Catalan club will activate their option to buy.
Financial concerns appear to be the key issue. While Barcelona value Rashford, the overall cost of a permanent deal — including his salary — is proving difficult to justify, particularly given he has not been a guaranteed starter.
As a result, talks over a long-term stay have cooled, opening the door to a potential return to United. Rashford is still under contract at Old Trafford until 2028 and is reportedly willing to be part of a new project if he heads back.
A final decision is expected at the end of the season, once Barcelona have held further discussions internally and with the player’s camp.
What once looked like a permanent exit is now far less certain. If Barcelona ultimately walk away, Rashford’s story at Manchester United may not be finished just yet — and a return could offer both player and club an unexpected chance to reset and rewrite the narrative.
