The Black Cats have not enjoyed the best start to the Premier League season, with David Moyes’, as of yet, still looking for his first Premier League win.
The Tavern sweepstakes have touted Moyes’ men to go down this season, and on current form, that is looking life a safe bet.
If the Scot wants to stand any chance of keeping the Wearside club up this season, he simply must utilise his squad to the maximum; and part of that process will be using some players as impact subs.
Our landlord thinks that some players are simply not good enough to play 90 minutes every week, but he feels that they can do a job in small bursts.
With that said, Moyes simply must utilise these 2 Sunderland players as impact subs from on at the Stadium of Light.
Steven Pienaar
Steven Pienaar has had an excellent career, but at 34-years-old – he does not have the legs to do it every single week anymore.
As with most players who are nearing the twilight of their career, his game time will gradually reduce; and a role from the bench could prove absolutely crucial for Sunderland here on out.
You never lose your quality, and Pienaar is still as deadly as ever down the flanks, though he doesn’t have the pace to do it for 90 minutes every week.
He can pop on for 20 minutes when Sunderland need a goal, and he will no doubt use his experience to deliver.
Victor Anichebe
Victor Anichebe is still yet to make a Premier League start for Sunderland, but that doesn’t mean he cannot do a job from here on out.
Granted, it appears unlikely that he will be a starter at the club, given the Black Cats offensive depth – but a role from the bench towards the end of the game could be great for him.
He has a tendency to pop up with an important goal when it is required, and whilst his goalscoring record in the Premier League is not great; he has proven in the past that he is occasionally a goal threat.
He can also be utilised as a good out-ball if Sunderland are looking to hold onto a lead.
Anichebe will never be a deadly goalscorer, but he can do a job for Moyes this season.
