The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that their side’s goalkeeping situation will finally get resolved this summer. The Hammers tried unsuccessfully to rebuild Joe Hart’s career last season, but the Englishman struggled to recover his fine form of a few years ago.
Adrian, meanwhile, is 31-years-old, and so West Ham must consider bringing in a long-term replacement.
We recently made the case that the perfect option would be Loris Karius, who is rated at £10.8 million by Transfer Markt. Karius is a divisive figure, given his mixed fortunes at Anfield, but the German clearly has a lot of potential.
Seemingly, West Ham fans have bought into that potential. We asked fans whether he’d be a good fit, and 60% responded saying yes, whilst just 40% were against the idea of a deal.
It’s no surprise that fans are divided somewhat, given that Karius has made some high-profile mistakes over the years. Most notably, he struggled in the Champions League final.
However, it’s easy to forget that he was actually pretty solid for much of last season, and he comfortably looked better than Simon Mignolet.
Furthermore, at 24-years-old, the German has lots of room for further growth, and mistakes generally reduce as experience grows. All the pieces are there, then, for him to get even better.
