Multi-million pound Southampton deal on the verge of collapse

Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left with a lot to discuss today, as news breaks on the fate of a potential club takeover.

The Sun states the Premier League have placed a block on the proposed £200m takeover of Southampton from Lander Sports Development chief Gao Jisheng, who is fighting his case and could learn his fate today.

Chinese millionaire Gao saw his proposed takeover blocked earlier this year following evidence he was involved in two corruption cases in China, one of which led to an execution of a senior official by lethal injection.

However, Gao is not prepared to end his interest in taking-over Southampton and his lawyers are due to meet the Premier League this morning for a final verdict on whether Gao and his consortium can purchase a Premier League side.

Even if Gao is successful in his appeal, it does not mean a sale of Southampton will go ahead as The Sun states he’s not the preferred party to sell to, with Saints owner Katharina Liebherr has a number of offers on the table.

Our landlord can’t see the case going in Gao’s favour though, stating that the Premier League’s decision to block a move is certainly justified.

The Saints fans present in the Transfer Tavern are sceptical about the potential of this deal happening, and just hope that the club stays financially sufficient and sustainable.
