Serie A champions Napoli are keen on Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes, and have reportedly contacted the player’s representatives. Nunes joined City in a €60m deal from Wolves in 2023, and has gone on to make 83 appearances for the club.
He has only managed 244 minutes this season though, appearing in four out of City’s first six Premier League matches. Nunez has played a rotational role under manager Pep Guardiola, and has been lauded for his versatility.
The Portuguese international can play as both a central midfielder and a right back, a fact this not lost on Napoli who who see the player as a valuable option for squad depth. Italian transfer expert Nicolo Schira has reported that Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has already opened talks with Nunes’ agent Jorge Mendes.
Napoli are eyeing a potential January move for the Nunes, as they are due to lose key man Andre-Frank Anguissa to the African Cup of Nations.
Napoli keen on Nunes

Napoli have already pulled off a coup from Manchester City after signing City legend Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer this summer. De Bruyne has already scored three goals in five Serie A appearances for Napoli as the defending champions sit second on the Serie A table in goal differential.
De Bruyne was greeted warmly on his return to City when the two clubs faced off in Matchday 1 of the Champions League on September 18. City ran out 2-0 winners on the occasion.
It seems the Italians have their eye on another City man, and hopes to add Nunes to their growing list of ex-Premier League stars. Nunes could join former teammate De Bruyne, as well as former Manchester rivals Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku. Frank Anguissa and Billy Gilmour complete the list of stars who started their journey in the Premier League.
While it is unknown what Nunes’ current transfer value is, City will likely look to recoup as much as their original investment as possible. His current deal expires in 2028, and his age means he still hold resale value.
