Newcastle United: Andrew Musgrove makes takeover claim as council boss demands answers from Premier League

Share

Andrew Musgrove has made a rather big claim involving the proposed takeover of Newcastle United as he reacted to an article from The Chronicle on his official Twitter page.

As per the article, Pat Ritchie, the chief executive of Newcastle City Council, has demanded answers from the English Premier League (EPL) and its CEO Richard Masters over the collapse of the prospective £300m deal between Mike Ashley and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) group.

Ritchie has offered to meet Premier League and work on a “compromise” that could see the deal go over the line. The EPL have yet to comment publicly on why the negotiations lasted so long, as the Owners’ and Directors’ Test (ODT) set out by the league dragged into its fourth month.

The Chronicle also understands that the partners involved in the bid were keen to work very closely with Newcastle City Council on plans to increase growth commercially and regenerate through some economic development projects.

As a result, the Council’s chief executive Ritchie has asked for the Premier League to clarify their actions, or indeed a lack thereof.

Musgrove claimed in his tweet that “this is an important move”, as the journalist believes that the offer to improve the city and region is something that the EPL must explore regardless of whether or not they approve the takeover, and added that there is “pressure mounting” on them.

Indeed, the pressure on the Premier League for answers is growing, with huge pressure already put on Masters himself, but whether the EPL actually come out and say anything publicly on the matter is anyone’s guess for now.
