The upcoming season is going to be an interesting one for Newcastle United. The supporters aren’t very optimistic over the upcoming campaign and not many of them are expecting to finish higher than last season’s 10th place.

Most supporters would take any finish that has them outside of the bottom three this season, but with the squad they have being very similar to the one from last season but still having Rafa Benitez in charge could see them maintain their good run over the last two seasons and they could well achieve another top ten finish. The last time the club ended two consecutive seasons in the top ten was between 2002 and 2004 when they finished 3rd and 5th.
However, things have changed a lot since then and for the Magpies, they’ll be keen to ensure that they retain their Premier League status and will then look to see how high they can finish. The last time the St James Park faithful ended a season 10th was back in the 2013/14 campaign. The season after that in 2014/15 saw them drop five places to 15th and then during the 2015/16 season they were relegated, a fate that the fans will be desperate to avoid for this season and the next three.

Just from the handful of tweets above, it’s clear to see that the supporters aren’t exactly positive ahead of the new season and will be keen to see how they fare in their first few games before making a real prediction.
