Newcastle United are on a desperate search to find a striker before the summer transfer window closes.
The Magpies have qualified for Champions League football next season and are currently preparing for the new campaign over in Singapore.
Despite the signing of Anthony Elanga, it has not been smooth sailing for Newcastle over the last few weeks, with Alexander Isak reportedly asking for permission to explore his options away from St James’ Park.
The Swedish striker is the talisman in the Tynesiders’ attacking threat, and following the departure of Callum Wilson, a move away for Isak would be an absolute nightmare for Eddie Howe.
Newcastle have been linked with numerous forwards and have had bids rejected for João Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and Yoane Wissa in recent months.
It will be imperative for the club to secure another centre-forward, possibly even two, if they agree to let Isak leave before the transfer window closes.
Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope has given an update on Newcastle’s pursuit of a striker, with Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson the latest name added to the shortlist.
Writing in his article last night, Hope claimed that the North East giants have a four-man shortlist, including Jackson, Wissa, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and RB Leipzig ace Benjamin Sesko.
Should Newcastle sign Nicolas Jackson?

There is no doubt that signing a Premier League-experienced striker would be massively advantageous in their efforts to hit the ground running from the first gameweek.
However, the interest in Jackson feels borderline desperate when it comes to attracting talent to either replace or rotate with Isak, as the Chelsea forward hasn’t had the most impressive time in West London.
Across 81 appearances for the Blues, the 24-year-old – once hailed as “unbelievable” by TNT pundit Peter Crouch – has scored 30 goals and registered 12 assists, averaging a goal contribution every 144 minutes.
Out of the four named targets, Jackson scored the fewest goals (13) in all competitions last season and carries a worrying disciplinary record, having received two red cards and eight yellow cards.
It is reported that Chelsea are seeking at least £80m to part ways with the Senegalese striker this summer – a heavy investment for a player who hasn’t consistently delivered and treads a fine line with his behaviour on the pitch.
That said, Howe has an outstanding record when it comes to player development, often nurturing strengths and transforming reputations in the Premier League.
The signing and transformation of Anthony Gordon is a prime example of the kind of growth possible under Howe’s guidance.
All things considered, Jackson may not be the ideal solution in Newcastle’s striker search, but if push comes to shove, he is an experienced option with the potential to fill a much-needed role in the squad.
