Luke Edwards has made a takeover prediction following a statement that was released by Newcastle United with regards to the proposed £300m deal between Mike Ashley and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) group.
As per a tweet from The Telegraph journalist, Edwards claimed: “My prediction, now they’ve been challenged/given permission to by Ashley, the Premier League will no longer be constrained or able to hide behind by a “confidential” process. They can/have no excuses not to reveal details of what has happened and why.”

Indeed, the statement that was released by the Tyneside club was rather brutal toward the Premier League and its chief executive Richard Masters.
After claiming that the top flight and its CEO had officially rejected the takeover bid based on the results of their Owners’ and Directors’ Test (ODT), the Magpies claimed that this conclusion had been reached despite the club providing overwhelming evidence and legal opinions that PIF is independent and autonomous of the KSA government.

However, the brutality did not stop there as the statement went on to read that the club and its owners do not accept that the EPL and Masters have acted appropriately in relation to the matter and will thus be considering all relevant options available to them.
The statement concluded by saying that Mike Ashley understands the supporters’ frustrations and that the Newcastle owner would like to reassure them of his full commitment to ensuring that the whole takeover process reached completion as he felt it was in the best interests of the club.

Indeed, as Edwards suggests, the Premier League may have to come out now and reveal details of what exactly happened with the takeover and why there still seems to be some confusion among all of the parties involved.
