Newcastle: Some Toon fans have urged the club to sign Venezuelan striker Josef Martinez

After Miguel Almiron celebrated his goal in the FA Cup match against West Bromwich Albion with an iconic tribute to former teammate Josef Martinez, plenty of Newcastle fans have begged Mike Ashley to buy the Venezuelan striker.

Miggy opened the scoring at the Hawthorns and struck a “fusion” pose straight from Dragon Ball Z. This was one half of the unusual goal celebration shared by Almiron and Martinez when they played together for Atlanta United (per MLSSoccer).

The Paraguay international helped carry Atlanta to the 2018 MLS Cup trophy before departing for Tyneside in January 2019. Martinez has enjoyed a successful spell at the American side too, scoring a whopping 90 goals in 103 games and providing 12 assists. The centre-forward is currently valued at £15.75m via Transfermarkt.

Unfortunately for Newcastle fans, the goal machine tore his ACL in the Five Stripes’ opening game with Nashville SC, which will likely keep him on the sidelines for the foreseeable future (sbnation.com), meaning Almiron was not hinting at a future link-up but rather sending some positive vibes to his old partner in crime.
