It’s been a tough summer for Newcastle with the club struggling to bring in any new players so far this summer.
So far Rafa Benitez has only been presented with Kenedy, Ki Sung-yeung and Martin Dubravka. In typical Mike Ashley fashion, while the fans had hoped that the club may splash the cash this summer – specifically on a new striker – the club owner has kept his wallet well away from danger.
As it stands, with the players Newcastle have, Benitez will have to work wonders to replicate last season’s 10th place finish. A top half finish seems well off the cards for the Magpies and instead, fighting relegation looks increasingly likely.
The time is ticking on Newcastle’s transfer business and in Luke Edwards’ opinion – the Daily Telegraph’s North-East sports reporter – the club are already in a mess before the season has already started.
As you’d expect, Newcastle fans weren’t happy with the club’s business either…

It’s like a form of purgatory- all that positivity at the end of the season down the drain- Rafa’s last season with us no doubt
