Newcastle United: Fans laud takeover news as Saudis plan to bid for Premier League TV rights

Some Newcastle United fans are lauding news on the prospective takeover in the North East as Saudi Arabia are planning to bid for the television rights of the Premier League and neutralise the concerns over broadcast piracy that has delayed their proposed deal to buy the Tyneside club, according to the Daily Mirror.

As per the outlet, the nation’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) is set to take an 80 per cent stake in the Magpies as part of a £300 million takeover.

The Saudis still believe that their proposed deal is on track and close to being given the green light by the top flight who are running their fit and proper person test on the potential new owners.

They also believe that they have the financial might to outbid beIN Sports for the TV rights to games from England’s highest division.

These members of the Toon faithful lauded the news on Twitter, with one NUFC supporter claiming that this is ‘the final hurdle’ to overcome before the bid can be approved. It is understandable that they would be happy upon reading this, as it will calm the nerves following a report from The Guardian earlier in the week which suggested the takeover was in doubt due to piracy issues – a problem which would be resolved should Saudi Arabia legally obtain rights to air Premier League football…
