Back in January 2014, Cheick Tiote appeared to have scored an equaliser for Newcastle United at St James’ Park against Manchester City, only for referee Mike Jones to rule the effort out. Unsurprisingly many Magpies are still fuming at the decision.
Following a corner delivery from Yohan Cabaye, the ball took a deflection and bounced away, only for Tiote to smash in an incredible screamer from outside the box. Jones then enraged the Toon Army when he disallowed the sensational strike as he judged Yoan Gouffran was interfering with an opposing player by apparently distracting City keeper Joe Hart (Independent).

Fan favourite Tiote contributed nine assists and a goal for the Black and Whites and made over 150 appearances for the club during a six year spell in Tyneside (Transfermarkt).
Sadly the former Ivorian international passed away in China in 2017 but he will always be remembered as a beloved cult hero (BBC).
