Newcastle United: Mark Douglas reveals buyers insight into takeover

Mark Douglas has revealed some insight into the buying side of the proposed takeover of Newcastle United as he responded to a few questions from members of the Toon faithful in a Question and Answer session (via The Chronicle).

One NUFC fan asked if the journalist had had any recent conversations with the buyers and whether they were still optimistic as to whether the deal would be happening soon, to which Douglas replied with:

“Absolutely. Their confidence hasn’t ever dipped. But given that it hasn’t happened yet, I suppose that might not be too much of a confidence booster for concerned fans.”

Indeed, it may be a bit of a confidence boost for some Magpies that he has revealed that the confidence of the buying side has not ever fallen, but the fact that the whole takeover saga has dragged on for so long may still concern some supporters.

Will the takeover of Newcastle be approved?

The prospective £300 million deal between Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabian-led group has been delayed for a number of reasons, one of them being that the Premier League are still analysing as to whether the would-be owners are fit and proper people to be taking over the Tyneside club, as per the Owners’ and Directors’ Test (ODT) set out by the top flight.

The consortium also includes the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) crown prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS) and his country’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), as well as the billionaire Reuben brothers that are originally from India but are now based in London.

Which season did Longstaff make his debut for the Newcastle U18's?

Nevertheless, they will be hoping that the results of the ODT are positive, which would surely bring them one step closer as to being able to take over from Ashley.

Geordies, are you confident that the bid will go through? Comment below!
