TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has been left stunned by what he has now heard from Amanda Staveley at Newcastle United.

The Lowdown: Staveley comments

Co-owner at St. James' Park Amanda Staveley has given her reaction to the news that Roman Abramovich will now be selling Chelsea, given the Russian billionaire's alleged ties with Russia president Vladimir Putin, as the country continues its invasion of Ukraine.

Staveley has since given an interview to The Financial Times with her thoughts on his situation, claiming that she is 'sad' that Abramovich is having the Blues taken away from him because of the connection he may have with Putin.

She does not think that it is 'particularly fair' and almost went so far as to play down his connection to the conflict between the two countries.

The Latest: Crook reacts

Speaking on talkSPORT, journalist Crook has now given his reaction to the comments made by Staveley, and is safe to say that he was stunned by them:

“It’s utterly heartless.

“To say you’re sad about a rich Russian having to sell his club is wrong.

“What is sad is the people in Ukraine losing their lives for no reason.”

The Verdict: More empathy needed

Staveley could have definitely used a better choice of words when talking about the situation, and should have shown more empathy for Ukraine and their people.

Of course, both Abramovich and Staveley are now in the financial elite of the Premier League, but she should have showed a better understanding with regards to what was happening at Stamford Bridge.

Nonetheless, she has to put this behind her now and concentrate on running the Magpies to the best of her ability.
