Nick De Marco has sent an 11-word message to Newcastle United amid speculation over the proposed £300m takeover by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) group.
The prospective lawyer to represent Mike Ashley in a pending arbitration hearing against the Premier League sent his congratulations to the Tyneside club after they managed to earn a 0-0 draw at St. James’ Park against the reigning champions and current league leaders Liverpool.
Are the Premier League to blame for the Newcastle takeover collapse?
He tweeted: “Great result for NUFC to gain a point from League champions!”
Can De Marco bring the Newcastle takeover home?
De Marco has a great track record and overall reputation among sports lawyers, exemplified by him helping Sheffield Wednesday win their legal case, as he was reportedly instrumental in getting their points deduction in the EFL Championship reduced from 12 points to just six point, therefore giving the Owls a much better chance of surviving in the division.
His reputation among his fellow sports lawyers is unquestionable, as he has been labelled as “the Lionel Messi of sport law,” according to Price Of Football.
If the arbitration hearing against the top flight and its lawyers does go though, then the Magpies should feel relatively confident that they can get the result they want in front of the judge if De Marco does end up representing them.
Still, it is encouraging to see that he engages with the Toon outside of takeover business as the club’s fans will likely want someone representing them who really cares about the club
