Newcastle United: Sean Longstaff performance against Oxford has Magpies fans praising midfield man

Off the back of a dramatic 3-2 extra time victory over League One minnows Oxford United, Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff has been receiving a lot of plaudits after he ‘ran his socks off’ during the contest – as well as grabbing the game’s opening goal and an assist for Joelinton.

Longstaff, who buried a great finish into the top corner for Newcastle’s first goal of the game from just outside the penalty area, also fed Joelinton for the Magpies’ second – dinking a neat ball over the top to find the Brazilian who curled a low effort past Oxford keeper Simon Eastwood. From then on, drama ensued, with the home side nicking two late goals in the last ten minutes to send the game into extra time.

Allan Saint-Maximin, who came on as a substitute for the injured Joelinton before half time, grabbed all the headlines with an incredible solo effort to send Steve Bruce’s side into the FA Cup fifth round. However, even though the Frenchman was the talk of the Toon, Longstaff’s performance hasn’t gone unnoticed – with the Englishman notching an impressive 8.2 rating on SofaScore whilst completing 87% of his passes, even more than January loan signing Nabil Bentaleb (85%).
