Speaking to Newcastle United’s official website, Steve Bruce has begged supporters to fill St. James’ Park ahead of the FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City.
The Magpies boss has pleaded with the Toon Army to “fill St James’ Park and experience the atmosphere that a big FA Cup quarter final can bring.”
In fairness to Bruce, he knows a thing or two about FA Cup quarter-finals. The former England international won three FA Cups during his time at Manchester United (Transfermarkt).
Many supporters have been boycotting the Tyneside stadium in recent years due to ongoing frustrations with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley. Some fans issued their own demands in response to Bruce’s plea, with one fan urging the board to “bring back the scarves.” Another commented, “I bet the ticket prices go shooting back up!”
Bruce’s Black and Whites face a formidable Manchester City side in March and will need all the help they can get if the Magpies are to overcome Pep Guardiola’s team. Although United are unbeaten in their past 2 home games against the current FA Cup titleholders, City have won their last 5 games including a famous 2-1 victory at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid (Transfermarkt).
