Newcastle United: Steve Bruce reveals transfer budget size amid takeover

Steve Bruce has revealed to The Shields Gazette that the transfer budget of Newcastle United may not be as big as what it was going to be in January before the global pandemic outbreak swept across the footballing world.

Indeed, clubs may have to adjust their respective budgets due to the potentially negative impact that the pandemic would have made on them in a financial sense, meaning that they may not have as much disposable income to spend on players as much as they would have perhaps liked to have had.

This is the precise attitude that has been given by Bruce, as he told the outlet:

“I would envisage our budget is not going to be as big as what it was going to be in January before all this started.”

However, while the Englishman has played down the size of the budget, perhaps one could question as to whether this would be made bigger if the proposed takeover in the North East is eventually approved by the Premier League.

Indeed, the Tyneside club could have an abundance of wealth at their potential disposal if the consortium take over from Mike Ashley.

The buying side consists of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) crown prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS), his country’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), businesswoman and head of PCP Capital Partners Amanda Staveley and the billionaire Reuben brothers, who are originally from India but are now based in London.

They would all surely have plenty of cash to spend between them in the upcoming summer transfer window, but it is still unclear as to whether their £300 million bid will be approved by the top flight, so everything is still speculation up until a final decision is made.

Geordies, do you expect the Magpies to spend big if the takeover is approved? Comment below!
