Replying to a teasing report from Sky Sports reporter Bryan Swanson on Twitter, some Newcastle United supporters have rubbished the hint that takeover talks could be nearing the final stages with the Owners’ and Directors’ test, taking to social media and lambasting the ‘pointless‘ update.
A takeover by Prince Mohammed bin Salman, brokered by former solely interested party Amanda Staveley, appears to have been in the works for some time – with a report from the Guardian in late January stating that the deal is ‘90%‘ of the way there. However, after more than a week of radio silence, supporters appear to be getting anxious that the potential takeover has gone up in smoke. Current owner Mike Ashley, who is reportedly holding out for £340 million plus a non-refundable bond of £250,000 paid directly to himself (The Daily Mirror), has been an unpopular figure on Tyneside since his takeover in 2007 – with a lot of supporters hoping to see the back of the Sports Direct magnate sooner rather than later.
As a result, these fans have been unforgiving when it comes to fruitless takeover updates – here’s what they had to say on social media.
Yeah he’s mates with Ashley

Pointless. Wasting people’s energy.

This literally means nothing! All he’s saying is I can’t tell you whether there is anything going on or not

What is the point of these tweets! Telling us nothing

So nothing to report still……

Doesn’t really tell you anything, just standard info on what happens in the acquisition of a football club. Nothing specific to ours.
