Newcastle United: DeAndre Yedlin set to leave despite averaging more tackles than Jamaal Lascelles

Newcastle United ace DeAndre Yedlin is set to leave the Tyneside club in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to CBS Sports.

As per the outlet, the representatives of the 26-year old are set to speak with the Magpies to discuss as to whether he has a long-term future in the North East.

Teams around Europe are reportedly showing interest in signing Yedlin, as his current deal at St. James’ Park is set to expire in the summer of 2021.

The American international has not yet received an offer of a contract extension, as sources have apparently told the publication that there is a 90 per cent chance that he will leave Steve Bruce’s team.

It is unclear as to how much Yedlin would go for in the current market, especially due to the financial uncertainties caused by the outbreak of the global pandemic, but Transfermarkt currently value him at £5.85 million.

The right-back has been struggling with various injury woes so far in the 2019/20 season, and as such has been limited to just 18 games in all competitions, with the likes of Javier Manquillo and Emil Krafth playing ahead of him at times.

Nevertheless, Yedlin has arguably done well in some areas in this campaign, and has actually averaged more tackles per game in the Premier League (1.2) than central defender and captain of the Toon Army Jamaal Lascelles (0.6), according to Whoscored.

The full-back has also won 2.4 duels and averaged 1.1 clearances per match in the top flight so far in this term (via Sofascore).

However, his various issues with injuries plus Manquillo and Krafth already being at NUFC may mean that Yedlin will look to move elsewhere.
