According to a report from the Daily Star, Newcastle United target Valentino Lazaro has hinted that he ‘prefers’ a switch back to the Bundesliga with table-topping RB Leipzig – prompting some supporters to run out of patience with the versatile winger.
Lazaro, who has been likened to fellow Austrian star David Alaba in the past (Bundesliga), is currently on the Magpies’ radar as they attempt to strengthen their bereft left-wing by the end of the January transfer window. Season-ending injuries to both Jetro Willems and Paul Dummett, combined with the fact Christian Atsu is their only natural senior left-winger, has prompted interest in the versatile 23-year-old who can operate as a wing-back and left midfielder.
Defensively, Lazaro averaged more interceptions (1.4) in his last season for Hertha Berlin than Willems has this campaign (0.9) – even though he also makes fewer tackles (1.5), as per WhoScored.com. Meanwhile, compared to Atsu, he manages more completed dribbles (1.1) and key passes (1.8) over the Ghanaian – perhaps hinting that he could be a fruitful acquisition to provide much-needed cover on the left.
However, if this news is to be believed, it appears Lazaro prefers a move back to Germany instead – with many Newcastle fans now running out of patience with the player. Here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
You could tell by his agent what type of character he is👌 we don’t need bad apples disrupting the good team spirit we have.

Anyone that opts out of the premier League knows they aren’t good enough to make it….so he should be forgotten

Move on. We only want players who want to be here.

Forget about him, his agent’s wasted our time anyways. Need more additions badly
