North London Braced For £4M Feud Over In Demand Hard Man

Many Tottenham fans may not be familiar with the name, Eliaquim Mangala but it might be long till he’s donning the famous white shirt at the Lane. The Standard Liege defender is also attracting interest from North London rivals, Arsenal after a stand out performance at the Emirates in the Champions League last season.

The French Under-21 international of Congolese descent has been a mainstay in the Belgian clubs’ defence this season. The 6 foot centre back boasts a strong physique, helping him to overpower opposition attackers, adding to his natural ability to read the game.

Mangala’s abilities have seen him be utilised in the midfield as well as his natural defensive position which is dream for managers such as Redknapp. With Wenger and also Alan Pardew at Newcastle showing a reported interest it seems that the Premiership is the young man’s next destination.

His agent told Talksport: “I think he is ready to move on and play in another championship – even if Standard is regarded as one of the top clubs in Europe,”

“I hope to have some offers from English clubs (in the summer).”

The Frenchman’s physical attributes and willingness to play in several positions across the park has also attracted the interest from Paris Saint-Germain and newly-crowned Ligue 1 champions, Lille. The English Premier League is a much more attractive move for the player with Tottenham believed to be the most likely suitors.

A valuation of around £4million is likely to put some off making a bid but Redknapp seems confident that this could be signing that will pay off in the future.
