Southampton fans here in the Tavern are hoping for some potential signings as deadline day has now begun, with reinforcements still needed in a side that’s far from being safe.
Mauricio Pellegrino has produced the worst win percentage record by any Southampton manager through their first 10 games in the job, as the Saints look to be flirting with the dreaded relegation zone as this season takes its toll. And, the fans haven’t been shy in hiding their frustrations during the January transfer window, as the club’s lack of intent and decision-making has left supporters fearing the worst for their survival.
And, the sale of the world’s most expensive defender seems to have been pocketed by Les Reed, as the signing of Guido Carillo has been the only bit of business completed in arguably the most important window in the club’s history. Still, as they sit firmly in the relegation zone with Swansea City’s back-to-back wins now putting them even further in trouble, should the Saints fail to complete any more business this window, then relegation may just become inevitable at St Mary’s.
And, supporters were hoping to secure the signing of Quincy Promes, a Dutch winger that’s attracting all the plaudits for his goalscoring form displayed in recent years. But, these links were soon compromised as Southampton journalist Adam Leitch took to his personal Twitter account to state that it’s quiet on the transfer front for the Saints, as the supposed deal for Quincy Promes is now off.
Quiet deadline day for #saintsfc now. Promes deal all but off. Spartak wanted entire release clause up front, which is unacceptable for most clubs. Negotiations found an agreeable compromise, Promes wanted to join, but Spartak unable to find a replacement so won't sell

Following the news, fans were quick to slate the club for their lack of intent during this transfer window, as they now seem to be open to the fact that their side may just be facing relegation.
Nevertheless, here’s exactly the sort of reaction fans gave off on social media…
It might be unacceptable for most but we just received 75m, only spent 19.1 and we're 19th. Absolute joke

I thought they were doing a medical for someone two days ago?!

fail to win tonight and St Mary's will be a pretty poisonous place at the final whistle

Could be very toxic tonight if we don’t win tonight! Fans won’t accept that

shame they didn't reach the compromise a few days earlier. After selling VVD its a terrible window all considered. Very poor. #SaintsFC
