Adebayor is becoming hot property once again and his performance last night will certainly increase his admirer’s interest. The latest club to be linked with the former Togo International is Newcastle United. Newcastle have the cash ready for an Andy Carroll replacement and manager Alan Pardew is considering taking a gamble on the former Arsenal striker.
A very controversial figure, albeit a talented one Adebayor is never short of dividing opinion. His goal scoring ability is up there with some of the top forwards in the world and when he his on his game, he can be unplayable. However to say he can, at times become lethargic and disinterested, would be an understatement.
Is Adebayor worth the gamble of around £15 million? My guess would be unless you’re an ambitious club and going in the right direction, the answer is probably not, although Manchester City fans may differ. Newcastle could perhaps argue their case as Premier League survival looks assured and the Andy Carroll cash is available in the summer. However would it be worth the risk of destabilising the team for one individual? Still perhaps the club misses the drama as there never seems to be a dull day on Tyneside.
The club is always surrounded by drama, and with the tubby owner constantly out of sink with what the fans want, It would not surprise me if he sanctioned a bid of £20 million and a £100,000 per week contract on a player whose only work rate will be used to run down the side of the Manchester City Stadium alienating just about every fan possible.
So Geordie fans have I manage to keep you interested in the Tottenham destroyer? Well Adebayor has not ruled out a move back to English football once his loan finishes with the Spanish club.
“If I have the chance to go back to England one day, why not? I will never throw England away. I love the football, I love the atmosphere. We will talk in the summer about what I am going to do about my career.”
Newcastle have been linked with a host of strikers since Carroll left the club in January. Pardew is reported to have the full £35 million to spend on new players with a striker his top priority. Either way Adebayor could be set to divide fans opinion once again should he return to the Premier League with another club.
