Pedro Obiang gives West Ham further headache as injury crisis continues

West Ham United will be looking to return to winning ways on Saturday when they meet Leicester City in the Premier League.

The Hammers are coming off the back of two consecutive defeats and Manuel Pellegrini will want to see an improvement from his side at the King Power Stadium in the evening game.

However, according to a report by the London Evening Standard, he could be without one of his key men for the fixture, taking his injury list to seven first-teamers.

Pedro Obiang is believed to be a doubt for the game against the Foxes after he missed last weekend’s match against Tottenham Hotspur with a calf strain.

The midfielder has returned to light training, however, it is unlikely that he will be risked for Saturday’s match.

His latest injury gives West Ham and Pellegrini a further headache, as he joins the likes of Winston Reid, Carlos Sanchez, Andriy Yarmolenko, Manuel Lanzini, Jack Wilshere and Andy Carroll all out on the sidelines.

The Verdict:

Obiang’s expected unavailability for West Ham on Saturday will have come as a huge blow, as Pellegrini’s options continue to reduce.

The Spaniard would likely have started the game against Leicester, with the likes of Wilshere and Sanchez both out, but it appears the manager may have to make do without the 25-year-old.

With games against Spurs in the League Cup and a Premier League encounter against struggling Burnley, Pellegrini will be hopeful the midfielder is fit and raring to go by then.
