Tottenham have enjoyed a great start to the season, but January could represent an opportunity to make their season even better.
League titles are often won and lost in the January transfer window, and Tottenham Mauricio Pochettino undoubtedly needs to invest in his squad during the month-long opening.
Whilst Tottenham have become renowned in the Tavern as of late for their use of homegrown talent, our landlord thinks that Pochettino would be wise to look outside of England as he looks to expand on the players available to him.
In particular, he thinks that South American players offer a dose of technical brilliance that simply cannot be found anywhere else; and there are a few players from the continent that would be perfect for Spurs.
With that said, Pochettino must consider signing these 2 South American stars in January
Gaston Pereiro
Gaston Pereiro is an impressive attacking midfielder currently playing for PSV – and he has all the makings of Premier League star.
The left-footed ace is able to play across the midfield, and is particularly proficient on the flanks.
As a midfielder he possesses it all; strength, he is technically gifted, an excellent dribbler and he also has an eye for a pass.
He would differ from Tottenham’s current crop of midfielders in that he possesses much more raw power than the rest, and he could offer an excellent alternative for Mauricio Pochettino.
After making the switch to the Netherlands in 2015, Pereiro has already bagged an impressive 14 goals in the league – a tally that looks set to rise as the season goes on.
Certainly, he is still raw and developing, but is he ready for the Premier League? Absolutely.
Mauro Icardi
Mauro Icardi is a favourite amongst the punters in the Football Transfer Tavern, and January could offer Premier League sides, including Tottenham, their first genuine opportunity to land the prolific Argentine forward.
A fall-out between the player and the Inter Milan fans has led to doubts over his long-term future in Italy, and Tottenham would struggle to do better than go for him.
Icardi has been in stunning form for Inter since his arrival, having bagged over 50 goals in just 96 league appearances so far.
With Vincent Janssen continuing to struggle for Tottenham as of late; Icardi could represent a fantastic alternative to Harry Kane.
