Tottenham Hotspur have come off the pace in the Premier League in recent weeks and their fans here in the Tavern want to see them getting back on track!
But still, they’re the only side undefeated in the division which definitely counts for something. They picked up a decent away point in the London derby against Arsenal nearly 2 weeks ago and it shouldn’t be all doom and gloom at White Hart Lane going into the international break.
But what all these draws have shown us is that Spurs do need a little investment if they are going to continue to compete at the top of the table for the entire season.
It’s a long old campaign and for Mauricio Pochettino, a couple of strikers really wouldn’t go amiss in the slightest.
And with the African Cup of Nations on the horizon, we thought we’d see whether any of the strikers that could be playing in that tournament would suit Spurs going forward.
So armed with a decisive list from our footie-obsessed landlord, here are 2 African strikers that Spurs should sign in January…
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting
Schalke striker Eric Choupo-Moting is an African striker who is really beginning to shine in the Bundesliga.
The German-born Cameroonian international forward isn’t known for his ability to get 25 goals a season but he’s a real handful, with a good work rate and the ability to get past players.
He’s been tipped for a move away from Germany for some time and as variation goes, he wouldn’t be a bad player for Pochettino to have in his ranks in the slightest.
Benjamin Moukandjo
We’re sticking with Cameroon for our second pick in this team but we’re heading to France and to Lorient striker Benjamin Moukandjo.
Moukandjo is a seriously pacy striker who has been playing in Ligue 1 for most of his career. Some in the Tavern have been surprised he hasn’t progressed to the very top more quickly.
But he stayed in France and has done well, scoring solid amounts of goals season-after-season.
His pace, power and athleticism would be a real asset in this Spurs forward line.
