Pochettino simply must demand these two things from Daniel Levy in January

The January transfer window will soon be upon us and that means clubs up and down the Premier League need to start planning for the second half of the season.

Spurs are no different, of course, and our Lilywhites here in the Transfer Tavern are keen to see their team strengthen in the window after seeing their squad struggle under the strains of a busy campaign so far.

Indeed, their form in the Champions League, that saw them get eliminated, was indicative of them needing some extra bodies in and around the team and so now Mauricio Pochettino needs to act on that.

The Argentine manager knows that the race for the top four, let alone the title, is the tightest it’s been for some years and so any advantages he can get in the coming window will undoubtedly help him out.

He’ll have likely already spoken to Daniel Levy about what he wants in the market and our landlord thinks he should ask for these two things in particular…

 New striker

Vincent JanssenVincent Janssen

Signing Vincent Janssen as Spurs’ second striker just hasn’t worked out and when Harry Kane was injured earlier this year the club really struggled.

The Englishman is back now and the club look a threat again but if he gets another knock it could be curtains for their title challenge. A new forward that will actually score goals is a must, then, and needs to be the Lilywhites’ first priority.

With Spurs out of the Champions League there may actually be some concern that the clubs that are still in the competition may come calling for their best players.

Daniel Levy is a tough negotiator, thankfully for Pochettino, but if a Real Madrid comes calling for someone like Hugo Lloris how much can he actually stop a move? In that eventuality Levy will surely have to be at his stubborn best to keep the squad together.
