Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed another successful season, but fans in the Transfer Tavern are disappointed that their thrilling campaign is set to end without honours once again.

Mauricio Pochettino has excelled since taking charge of the North London giants and he’s turned a side of top-four hopefuls into Premier League contenders, although it’s clear additional improvements are necessary if the Lilywhites are to win their first league title since 1961.

Still, the Argentine boss can be praised for bringing the best of of Tottenham’s starring youngsters, establishing Harry Kane and Dele Alli as two of the best players within English football- and boosting the England side as a result.

Our landlord is excited to see what else Mauricio Pochettino has up his sleeve next season, and believes Thursday’s clash with Leicester City is the perfect opportunity to hand an opening to two players within his squad.

Kevin Wimmer

24-year-old Kevin Wimmer has struggled to earn opportunities in Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season, largely due to the starring performances of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

However, the Lilywhites have switched to a three-man defence at times this season and that could give Wimmer his opportunity.

Utilising the Austrian defender this week would give Pochettino an idea of whether Wimmer is capable of being a first-choice defender alongside his starring Belgian duo, or whether he needs to invest in a defensive area this summer.

Wimmer has earned just four Premier League starts this season, with his last opening coming against Stoke in February.

Josh Onomah

20-year-old midfielder Josh Onomah has enjoyed limited opportunities in the Premier League this season, making five appearances off the bench, but he’s yet to start for Mauricio Pochettino’s side- and this midweek clash could be the ideal opening for him.

Onomah’s last opening came in a two minute cameo against Watford a month ago, which was his first experience of Premier League football since December.

Next season, Tottenham’s squad will be tested by involvement in the Champions League once again and they need to know whether Onomah is up to scratch.

Utilising him here from the start would give a strong indication of his ability to suit Premier League football and Spurs have nothing to lose by giving him an opening.
