It’s fair to say that Arsenal have bettered most expectations of them this season, as their eyes remain locked on a top-four battle.
With most believing it would be a season of transition under Unai Emery, the former PSG boss has been exceptional in proving people wrong with his terrific football and ability to grind out results.
As the Gunners remain unbeaten in 16 games, clearly something is working well, although Emery wants more to rectify the problems at the back they have been enduring.
Despite how good they’re going forward, TMW are reporting that due to the defensive problems Arsenal have been having, they may turn to the services of Atalanta’s Gianluca Mancini.
The 22-year-old has been very impressive at the heart of defence for the Italian side, even surprisingly contributing up the other end as well with four goals to his name.
So what could recruiting an up-and-coming top defender mean for the club…
Shkodran Mustafi sold

The German defender has been vulnerable at times this season and has consequently faced criticism about his performances. Whilst young Rob Holding is developing beside him, Mustafi is almost declining.
There is no doubt that the form Gianluca Mancini is in, he would be a top replacement for Mustafi and one that could improve Arsenal as a team in the future.
Top four hopes increase

Many didn’t believe a top-four challenge was possible at the start of the season but Arsenal’s brilliant run of form has led to them being within three points of their biggest rivals.
With a talented young defender playing extremely well now, not only would he be useful straight away in their back-line but the future looks a lot brighter as well.
