Manchester City have been the form team in the Premier League in recent times, with their 6-0 victory over Chelsea highlighting their dominance.
Although, the Citizens must focus on ensuring consistency if they are to stand any chance of securing the Premier League title for a second successive season, as Liverpool currently have a game in hand.
Interestingly, it appears as if the Manchester club may have their sights set on a possible summer swoop, as according to Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Pep Guardiola is an admirer of Paulo Dybala and even sent Manchester City’s CEO Ferran Soriano to scout him last month.
Of course, moving for the Argentinian in the summer would be massive for Manchester City, but his potential arrival could also cause a few problems in what is a rather full squad packed with talent.
With that being said, here are the potential consequences of Manchester City signing Paulo Dybala in the summer…
PEP LANDS LONG-TERM AGUERO REPLACEMENT
Sergio Aguero has been simply sensational in the current campaign as he continues to spearhead Manchester City’s push for silverware, with 23 goals and five assists to his name in 30 appearances.
But, the Argentina international turns 31 in the summer so the Citizens will inevitably have to at bringing in a long-term replacement for him at some point, despite already having Gabriel Jesus in their ranks.
Pep Guardiola would land the perfect replacement for Aguero by signing Dybala as he has a very similar playing style, with his pace, dribbling and finishing ability making him a world-class talent. He’s played alongside Aguero on the international stage and is arguably one of the world’s most talented attackers, so it’s a no-brainer.
UPSET KEVIN DE BRUYNE
One man who could potentially lose out if City secure Dybala is Kevin De Bruyne.
The Belgium international hasn’t been able to secure a permanent starting place at the Etihad this season, which can be put down to injury and Guardiola switching things around. There’s no doubt that he’s one of the world’s best midfielders but he just hasn’t been able to reach the heights that many thought he would.
City could upset De Bruyne by landing Dybala as he would operate in behind Aguero, which has been De Bruyne’s position at times. Guardiola is a huge fan of Dybala and City would potentially pay a huge fee to bring him to England, so they’d feel obliged to gift him regular minutes in the side, which could affect De Bruyne’s chances.
