Last night’s game between Aston Villa and West Ham was far from thrilling.
A goalless tie at Villa Park saw the points shared in the West Midlands, though one talking point that did come from the tie was the dismissal of Hammers defender Arthur Masuaku.
Having already seen yellow, the Congolese full-back was adjudged to have fouled Aston Villa’s Ahmed Elmohamady in the second-half, with referee Mike Dean brandishing him with a second booking and subsequent red card.
Replays showed that Masuaku had barely made contact with Elmohamady, however, making his sending off seem extremely harsh.
Despite playing out the remaining 25 minutes with 10 men, West Ham managed to hold on and came away from Birmingham with a point to their name, which sees them stretch their unbeaten run in the Premier League to four games.
Villa, on the other hand, find themselves in 17th, just one place above the drop-zone on goal difference.
It’s not just West Ham fans who believe that Masuaku was harshly done by last night (via Read West Ham), either. These Aston Villa supporters were quick to stick up for the 25-year-old after the club’s official Twitter account posted a clip of the sending off…

Never a red, but if it wins Villa the game, I’m not complaining. C’mon Villa.

That’s harsh. I feel Elmo made more of that than there was….

Never a yellow in a million years. Push on lads 👊

That’s not a yellow card.
Too much of a reactionary decision.
