Steven Gerrard obviously didn’t get the memo that the transfer deadline has passed as he’s acted late to bring in one more signing. Ex-West Bromwich Albion defender, 38-year-old Gareth McAuley has signed for the Gers on a one-year deal subject to international clearance and the fans are buzzing. You can read more about the signing on the Rangers website.

McAuley left West Brom on a negative note last season when the club were relegated to the Championship. The Northern Ireland international who’s racked up 78 caps in his impressive career will be continuing his playing days at Glasgow in what will be his first foray into Scottish football in what has been a very long career. The defender has well over 600 senior appearances in his career and will be keen to add to those at Ibrox.
The defender is unlikely to push his way past Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson at the heart of Steven Gerrard’s backline but that’s not to say he won’t be used by his new gaffer. McAuley will provide vital experience and know-how to a quite young Rangers side and he will be very useful as the club competes in four competitions throughout what will be a very long season back in Europe.
