Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes that Chris Wilder could win the Premier League title if he was given a job at one of the big clubs.
The 52-year-old is of course currently in charge at Sheffield United where he has enjoyed a remarkable rise.
He took over at Bramall Lane when the club were languishing in League One, but has guided them to two promotions in three years (Transfermarkt).
They now play their football in the top tier and have made an outstanding start, currently sitting in fifth place after 12 matches played (BBC Sport).
After the news that Mauricio Pochettino had been sacked by Tottenham and before they confirmed the appointment of Jose Mourinho, Redknapp said that Spurs should have considered trying to hire the Blades boss.
Speaking on BBC 5 Live Sport, the ex-Portsmouth manager said that he thought Wilder would be a good choice for Spurs, before adding: “He is fantastic, what the boy has done there is amazing.
“Chris Wilder could win league titles with the right team in the Premier League given the opportunity.”
Although Wilder didn’t get the Spurs job, Redknapp’s thoughts are certainly interesting.
There is no doubt that the ex-Northampton manager has done an excellent job at Bramall Lane. They play some outstanding football and his 3-5-2 system with overlapping centre-backs is revolutionary (medium.com), which shows his outstanding tactical nous.
Whether or not he could transfer that success to a ‘big six’ club and win the Premier League is hypothetical.
When you look at how well he has done everywhere he has been, it is easy to see why Redknapp believes that he could make the step up and manage at the very top level.
