Tottenham were in Premier League action yesterday and overcame Cardiff City 1-0 at Wembley. In truth, it was a dour affair and you can’t help but feel sorry for anyone who forked out money for tickets and transport to watch the shocking match. The one bright point for Tottenham fans, though, was the man of the match performance of Toby Alderweireld.

Alderweireld has been a rock at the heart of the Tottenham defence ever since he signed for the club back in summer 2015. The Belgian has proven time and time again that he’s one of the best defenders in the Premier League and he built on his performance against Barcelona in the week with another cracking display and a clean sheet to go with it against Neil Warnock’s anti-football Cardiff City side.
The only issue with Alderweireld is his contract situation. The Belgian defender, according to most, was meant to be on his way out of North London over the summer transfer window but when a move failed to materialise plenty of fans started to believe he may sign a new contract. The 29-year-old’s current deal is set to expire this summer and whilst Tottenham have the option for a one-year extension, activating the extension will also activate a £25 million release clause which will see the defender poached from the club in minutes.

Congrats, Toby! A first-class performance.
Winks and Dier certainly deserved to be on this list as well.

Please pay Alderwereld the same as Harry kane, his saves equal the weight of goals..

That goal line clearance is equal to a goal…

Spurs fans want to see a lot more of Alderweireld and the club will need to give him a new contract for that to happen.
