Many Tottenham Hotspur supporters have taken to social media to demand that Mauricio Pochettino hands Troy Parrott his senior debut in Spurs’ Carabao Cup clash with Colchester United on Tuesday night.
Pochettino reiterated to The Guardian toward the end of August that Parrott is his second-choice striker to Harry Kane this season, but is yet to hand the 17-year-old his senior debut, despite the release of Fernando Llorente at the end of the 2018/19 campaign.
Republic of Ireland head coach Mick McCarthy has also lauded the Dublin-born forward, but stated that the teenager must force his way into the Tottenham first-team fold before he could be handed his full international debut (Express).
Parrott attracted McCarthy’s attention after a period of five days saw the Spurs product score the winner in his Republic of Ireland U21s debut against Armenia, before firing a brace against Sweden after entering the action from the bench.
His youth international bow came as a reward for a stellar 2018/19 campaign as part of Tottenham’s youth set-up, with whom he scored 14 goals in nine U18 Premier League fixtures, along with netting once in his sole U18 Premier League Cup outing.
Kane’s current only natural deputy in North London hit three in five U19 UEFA Youth League games last season, too, and captained the U23s on ten occasions in the Premier League 2 after stepping up a youth grade, helping Spurs avoid relegation.
Former Belvedere FC prospect Parrott already has three goals to his name in the current domestic term, too, with one in one UEFA Youth League appearance against Olympiacos following a double at home to Manchester City in the PL 2 last month (TransferMarkt).
Tottenham fans are now crying out to see the 6ft youngster awarded his senior debut on the road to Colchester United on Tuesday night, when Spurs travel to the JobServe Community Stadium looking to book their place in the Fourth Road of the Carabao Cup…
Parrott hat trick incoming.
