West Ham fans on Twitter are absolutely loving life with Issa Diop at the back

West Ham fans were all asking the same question when Manuel Pellegrini opted to sign Issa Diop this summer. Who is he? However, the France U21 international has answered that question promptly as he’s turned out to be one of the best defenders in the Premier League this season.

For a time over the summer, Issa Diop was even The Hammers record transfer buy. When Pellegrini opted to poach the 21-year-old from Toulouse there were certainly some eyebrows raised amongst the London Stadium faithful. The defender hasn’t let the price tag get to him at all in his time in the Premier League so far and his defensive instincts, sheer pace and brute strength have made him a key man at the heart of The Hammers’ defence.
Pellegrini and co stuttered at the start of the season. A number of new players had come in and it took the Chilean gaffer some time to stabilise the club and get his new signings firing. Now that they’ve started, though, it looks like it could be a successful season for the fans, with Diop steadying the ship at the back and the likes of Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnautovic doing bits going forward, it looks like The Irons will have something to celebrate very soon.

At last we have two centre defenders who can actually tackle!!! No we need a couple of full backs to go with them

Because the rest of the defence is so crap that he has to bail them out?

Diop is the star man in defence for West Ham and the fans love watching him go about his work at the back.
