Puel keen on bringing powerful 24-year-old to Southampton revolution

According to The Sun, Southampton are looking at signing centre-back Omar Colley from Genk, with our resident Saints fans here in the Transfer Tavern hoping it’ll prove another inspired signing on the behalf of manager Claude Puel.

Colley, though a centre-back usually, can also play as a left-back and his performances in the Europa League and Belgian league so far this season are reported to have interested Southampton’s French boss.

Puel signed the likes of Sofiane Boufal in the summer as he took over from Ronald Koeman and seems set to continue his spending with the man from The Gambia.

He has made 14 appearances in total so far for the Belgian side, playing in all of their Europa League group stage games and is currently the captain of his national team at the age of 24.

Virgil Van Dijk and Jose Fonte have been mainstays so far for Southampton at the back this season and so Colley would have to compete with them to start should he sign for the club.

Sam McQueen has impressed during his brief stint in the firs-team, though Matt Targett continues to divide opinion.
