Redknapp’s £40M Deal For Deadly World Cup Duo – Too Good To Be True?

Atletico Madrid, are rumoured to be preparing an offer to Spurs that could see both Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero moving to London in a deal worth £40 million.

The ‘Mattress Makers’ are strapped for cash at the moment, and know that if they want to compete with the rest of the Spanish league they have to find a way of filling the coffers. Selling Aguero and Forlan is the unpleasant reality.

Both players have been linked with a move to the Premiership in the past, with Chelsea coming closest during January. Forlan has of course some experience of the English game, following a mis-spent 3 year spell at Old Trafford. But both he and Aguero are said to be considering their options. With Atletico looking increasingly unlikely to qualify for the Champions League, and with Spurs currently riding high in that competition and the league, White Hart Lane is looking an extremely inviting move for the South Americans.

Following his time at United, where he only made 30 appearances before dropping out of the side all together, Forlan moved to Span with Villareal where he would frequently pop up on Spanish football highlight reels, with a kind of ironic ‘well, look who’s doing well’ kind of feel to them. He moved to Atletico in 2007, and has scored 74 goals in 127 appearances. He was one of the stars of the World Cup in South Africa, where he won the Golden Boot following some outstanding performances for his native Uruguay.

As for Aguero (whose full name is actually Sergio Leonel Aguero Del Castillo), word on the grapevine is that he has told his agent to start looking for a new club for him. The 22 year old has been an ‘up and coming star’ for some time now, and is good friends with Chelsea’s Fernando Torres. Having seen how well ‘Nando has adjusted to the English game, might just persuade Aguero that the Premiership is the place to be right now. The Argentine striker has scored 63 goals for Atletico.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham will make a £40 million bid for the pair, but this story has for some reason got me incredibly excited! I’d love to see both Forlan and Aguero in the Premiership, and the idea that they’re being given away is just too insane for words!! I think I’m going to have to have a lie down….

I'm a 23 year old Newcastle United fan, who enjoys watching and playing football, listening to music, watching movies and reading. Actually, none of that's very exciting is it? Erm...I also ran across America, won the Congressional Medal of Honour, have been to the White House 3 times, taught Elvis to dance and helped John Lennon write Imagine. My motto is, 'Life is like a box of chocolates...' no, sorry that's Forrest Gump....
