The timing of his return couldn’t be better for Spurs, with his defensive quality desperately needed by Mauricio Pochettino. Spurs have done well in his absence, but it’s clear that their solidity at the back increases dramatically whenever Alderweireld is involved.
The Belgian hasn’t played for Spurs since the start of November, and so his return will come as a massive boost to Tottenham as they continue their charge in the second-half of the campaign.
Landlord’s Verdict
Alderweireld, alongside Jan Vertonghen, had been a vital part of Tottenham’s recent success.
Regardless of how good they have been at the back in his absence, there is no doubting that they are a better side with him in the team. His return will be a huge boost ahead of an incredibly tough run of games.
