Rooney to Everton: The potential new-look Toffees attack next season

With a few rumours circling about around Wayne Rooney and his future, Everton are being tipped to re-sign their former youngster in the summer window if Jose Mourinho decides Rooney’s time at United is up.

The potential signing of Rooney has caused quite a stir among the Toffees fans here in the Tavern, and it’s got them talking about what their team could look like next season if Rooney signs.

Should Rooney sign, it is bound to causes some controversy, with many saying he is now past his best and has little to offer in terms of Premier League football. However, he could well still do a job, and a move back to his boyhood club might invigorate the England man.

Our landlord thinks that it might be just the ticket for Rooney to move to the Toffees, and he could well form part of a formidable attack at Goodison.

With this in mind, we have taken a look at just how Everton’s new look attack could look next season…

RW – Yannick Bolasie

It’s been a frustrating first season for the £25m signing from Crystal Palace, but he will be returning next season and could well offer plenty for Everton in a wide berth.

Bolasie has pace to burn and could well be a key man in providing the main strikers with the chances to bag those all important goals.

LW – Dusan Tadic

One man who could join Everton is Southampton man Dusan Tadic, who played under Koeman for the Saints before the Dutchman left for Merseyside.

A different type of player to Bolasie on the other side, Tadic would offer trickery and eye for those all important through balls if he was to make the move to Everton.

CAM – Wayne Rooney

The main man in this piece really, and playing in his favourite number 10 role.

Rooney could benefit from the pace of Bolasie on one side and Tadic on the other, and with the right striker in front of him, could well get back to his best.

Fwd – Romelu Lukaku

Despite link after link with moves to other clubs, if Rooney signs for Everton, it could be the tonic to inspire Lukaku to stick around the club.

Lukaku has been unbelievable once again this season, and with Rooney behind him, he could well flourish once again next season.
