Manchester United endured a frustrating result in midweek, and at the time of writing, were preparing for a weekend trip to Leicester City.

The Red Devils fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been up and down for the most part this season in terms of mood, but things have gone positively in the last three months.

Over at the jukebox, some of our punters have been talking about the star players in the squad at Old Trafford, and some of the chat has turned to those could be considered underrated.

All squads have these type of players. Players who do the dirty work or put a shift in, and often aren’t recognised for their role in the team.

Our landlord thinks this happens at Old Trafford too, so with that in mind, here are TWO Man United players who are seriously underrated…

Michael Carrick

The central midfielder has fallen into this category his entire career, but there is no denying his ability and importance to the team.

Alex Ferguson used to play Carrick in the big games, and Jose Mourinho has often adopted a similar approach.

Carrick is a wonderful footballer who will be missed once he hangs up his boots.

Antonio Valencia

The Ecuadorian full back has been one of the standout performers for a few seasons now and has continued with that form this season under Mourinho.

However, outside of Old Trafford Valencia is not really seen as one of the top performers in the league.

Those who watch weekly though will know Valencia is top quality, and his lung bursting runs down the right hand side are sorely missed when he is not in the team.
