Sheffield United: Fans blast Chris Wilder’s links to the England job

Chris Wilder has been tipped to become England manager once again, and it is hardly surprising that some Sheffield United supporters have blasted the circling gossip

These rumours have become a bit of a trend this year, off the back of United’s emphatic return to the top flight.

Wilder has stamped his image on the Blades during his time in charge at Bramall Lane, and his side could remarkably be playing European football next season. United are currently seventh in the table, two points clear of Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur, level with Wolves, and close behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United with a game in hand, despite only being promoted from the Championship last term.

All things considered, there is no denying the South Yorkshire outfit have been one of the biggest success stories in the Premier League in recent years.

Speaking to Sky Sports via his kitchen, Wilder dismissed the rumours, saying “I’ve got all focus on Sheffield United staying in the Premier League. I know what the game is like.

“It’s my first season in the Premier League. I’m proud of the players and what they have done but the hardest part is sticking there. We’ve had three-quarters of the season and done great, we’d love to finish the season on the front foot, but my personal ambition and that of the football club is to establish ourselves in the Premier League.

“We want games against Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City to be set in stone year-in, year-out. That’s my focus.”

Whether or not the 52-year-old will replace Gareth Southgate in the near future remains to be seen, but if he continues to do an excellent job at Bramall Lane the links will surely continue.

As expected, several Blades supporters slammed the latest talk of Wilder for England, with one angry fan telling the FA to keep their “hands off,” and another urging the governing body to “go find someone else.”
