Sheffield United centre-back John Egan is being monitored by fellow Premier League side Everton, that is according to a report from the Sun on Sunday (17/11; page 67 via Sheffield United News).
The report suggests that the Toffees will watch the 27-year-old when he plays for the Republic of Ireland against Denmark in their crucial UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier on Monday, to assess how he plays in a back four.
Egan, of course, plays in the centre of a back three for the Blades, a position he has excelled in for the last year and a half at Bramall Lane.
He has helped Sheffield United attain the joint-second best defensive record in the Premier League so far having conceded just nine goals (BBC Sport) and kept five clean sheets in 12 matches (Transfermarkt).
Everton are short at centre-back; they only have Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina at their disposal having failed to sign Kurt Zouma in the summer after his loan spell with the Toffees last season.
However, the report suggests that the Blades would demand a fortune before even considering selling the Irishman.
Most Sheffield United supporters don’t want to see the player sold at any cost, whilst some insist that only a huge fee would be acceptable if they were to consider letting him go…
I think he’s pretty much the only player I wouldn’t sell at all. Future captain and can carry on from Billy when it’s time for him to move on, honestly think in 10 years we could class this guy as a club legend(if he isn’t already).

Him and Stevens are absolute priceless to us right now and no way Wilder sells in January. £50m – at least – in the summer and even more in January. I don’t think he’s the type to push for a move to Everton either.
