Sheffield United: Fans drool over Chris Wilder as news emerges

Loads of Sheffield United fans have been reacting to a tweet from the club’s official account, as Tuesday marked 4 years to the day since Chris Wilder was appointed manager.

Picking up the pieces left by Nigel Adkins, Wilder took charge of Bramall Lane which was very different to the one fans know and love now.

Having led Northampton Town to the League Two title the year before, despite crippling financial pressures, the former player ripped up the rule book and brought in a brand new wave of Blades (The Star).

The Englishman’s style of play has received plenty of high praise from well-established coaches like Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, but it is his understanding of the South Yorkshire outfit that sets him apart from the rest.

Indeed, as chief football writer James Shield writes, Wilder’s ability to immerse himself in the very heartbeat of the club is arguably his greatest strength, which is helped by the fact he spent two spells at United during his playing career and is a boyhood fan.

After leading the Blades to promotion from the Championship last season, the 52-year-old’s side find themselves towards the top of the Premier League table, and they were firmly in the hunt for European football before the league ground to a halt as a result of the ongoing pandemic.
