Neil Warnock has left his job as manager of Cardiff City by mutual consent (via cardiffcityfc.co.uk).
The 70-year-old had been at the Welsh club since October 2016, and led them to promotion to the Premier League in the 2017/18 season (ITV News).
However, he could not keep them in the top flight and they were relegated straight back to the Championship (Sky Sports).
They may have been considered one of the favourites for promotion this term given their previous exploits under his watch in the second tier but have endured a below bar start to the season, sitting in 14th place after 16 games with just five wins (BBC Sport).
That has ultimately contributed to Warnock’s decision to move on, with the ex-Crystal Palace boss claiming that a “new voice” is needed at the club to take them forward.
It is unknown what the Yorkshire born manager will do next, although he did recently suggest that Cardiff would be his last job before retiring (BBC Sport).
Warnock famously also managed his hometown club Sheffield United previously, taking them to the Premier League in 2006.
Several Blades fans have been reacting to the news that their ex-manager has quit his job, and the possibility that he may now be done with management altogether.
Plenty had nice things to say about Warnock due to the good times the club had under him, whilst others have cheekily suggested that he has quit Cardiff so that he can watch his boyhood Blades in the Premier League…
I will always have a lot of respect for Neil Warnock, mainly because of what he achieved with the Blades. And you can’t knock 8 promotions in a managerial career. Also, despite the occasional pitch-side nonsense, he’s supposedly a thoroughly lovely bloke off it. He’ll be missed.
