Sheffield United have made a solid start to life back in the Premier League, with centre-back John Egan playing a key role so far.
The Irish international has played every minute of the league season so far for the Blades, helping them pick up a respectable eight points from their opening six matches.
In that time the South Yorkshire outfit have managed to keep two clean sheets, one against Crystal Palace at Bramall Lane and one more recently against a strong Everton side away from home.
Egan was one of the best players on the pitch at Goodison Park. He was a real lynchpin at the heart of the Blades’ back five as they successfully kept the likes of Richarlison and Moise Kean quiet. According to WhoScored, the 26-year-old made a whopping 12 clearances in the match, as well as making two tackles, two interceptions and blocking one shot.
Alongside the likes of Chris Basham and Jack O’Connell, Egan looks incredibly comfortable in the top flight and has certainly taken the step up from the Championship in his stride. His efforts have already been recognised by Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy who made him captain for their fixture against Bulgaria recently.
His outstanding defensive performances have not gone unnoticed by Sheffield United’s supporters either, who have been flocking to heap praise on the former Brentford and Sunderland man…
